Chiral anomaly and Weyl orbit in three-dimensional Dirac semimetal Cd3As2 grown on Si

ORAL

Abstract

In condensed matter physics, Dirac semimetal has drawn much interest due to the fascinating physics behind the captivated phenomenon. To date, a series of discoveries related to Cd3As2 have been studied both theoretically and experimentally. The angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy results demonstrate that Cd3As2 possesses two Dirac cones in each Brillouin zone. By breaking either time reversal symmetry or spatial-inversion symmetry, Dirac cone with a degeneracy of right- and left-handed chirality metamorphose into two Weyl nodes. Between the Weyl nodes, a Fermi arc appears on the surface state roles as an additional conducting channel and provides an additional chiral magnetic effect current flow. Theoretically, a low carrier density, which makes the chemical potential close to the Dirac point, is necessary for chiral anomaly to occur. Our sample grown on a silicon substrate with a 20 nm thick ZnTe buffer layer is deposited by molecular-beam epitaxy and has a relatively high carrier density measured by Hall measurements (nH≈1.3×1017 m-2) in the temperature range from 100 mK to 30 K. However, our sample still allows us to measure the negative magnetoresistance response in a finite parallel magnetic field.
