Exciton Localization in Dodecagonal Quasi-crystal WSe2

Abstract

Many intriguing properties have been observed in transition metal dichalcogenide moiré superlattices, stemming from flat bands at small twist angles. However, at larger twist angles, moiré patterns are typically incommensurate except for a few discrete angles. Quasicrystalline lattices, which lack transnational symmetry, impose unique influence on the electronic and excitonic states within them. Here, we study excitons in quasi-crystal WSe2 and how they evolve with doping and electric field. Our findings reveal the unique localization properties arising from quasicrystal structures rather than those resulting from impurities which introduce a novel approach to controlling the phases of excitonic states.
