Paradigms in Physics 2.0: How to Structure a Flexible, Organic Physics Major
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
The physics major at Oregon State University was (re)designed in 1996 and again in 2016 to be more modern and flexible, to incorporate research-spired, active-engagement strategies at the upper-division level, to reflect shared ownership by the entire department, and to be able to change organically as departmental needs change. I will share tips for how departments can embark on this kind of structural change. I will also discuss specific examples of how the research of our physics education group (OSUPER) has informed some of the curricular choices we have made.
