Imaging Wigner crystal (part II)

Abstract

At partial filling of a Landau level, strong electron interaction dominates the suppressed kinetic energy thus drives formation of a variety of fractional quantum Hall states and electron solids. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we show direct imaging of the Wigner crystal, a triangular electron lattice, at small filling fractions in Bernal stacked bilayer graphene and identify its phase space at high magnetic field. We reveal microscopic details of the Wigner crystal and discuss how it is affected by disorder potential. We also explore the phase space of the Wigner crystal at different magnetic fields and temperatures.
