Abstract

"Embarking on a scientific journey as a woman from Greece, my career has been a dynamic narrative shaped by resilience, determination, and a commitment to fostering equality. After a hiatus from research and academia, returning to Greece from the UK presented challenges, including difficulties securing a job. Despite these hurdles, including underpayment and sexism, I navigated the intricate landscape of establishing myself in research, through personal and work sacrifices, accelerating my trajectory through experiences in different countries. My career took a significant turn when I seized opportunities like SESAME, contributing a unique research project. This collaboration not only propelled my own work but also extended SESAME's reach beyond its region, leaving a lasting impact. Through positive phases, my career has been steadily moving upward, marked by recognition and accomplishments. Beyond research, currently I have taken on the role of an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Lead in my university. This dual commitment underscores not only personal growth but also a dedication to dismantling barriers and promoting gender equality in science and academia. As my journey unfolds, the narrative encapsulates a profound dedication to scientific advancement and a fervent belief in creating an inclusive and equitable future for the scientific community."
