Integrated control stack for optical qubit-based quantum computing and networks

Abstract
Optically-addressable qubits are promising candidates for building quantum computers, networks and sensors. Realizing these applications demands overcoming the bottlenecks of integrating the control and readout of these qubits. Both the control and readout require a broad frequency range, from stable dc signals for sample alignment, to rf and microwave pulses for qubit operation, and acquisition of timetags. Furthermore, a low latency connection between the readout and control enables mid-circuit measurements and feedforward, crucial for quantum teleportation.
We present Qblox’s qubit agnostic and integrated solution for control and readout of various optical qubit types, including defects in diamond, trapped ions, and quantum memory systems. We describe how various outputs can be used for providing digital control for a wide variety of optical modulators and switches, and how readout can be accomplished using the integrated counters and timetaggers. Our emphasis will be on key practical use cases, such as the creation of heralded entanglement pairs, where laser control, photon readout, and feed forward mechanisms are important. Furthermore, we will briefly touch upon embedding Qblox’s electronics in a full quantum network stack.
