Atomic fluctuations reveal phase transitions in underdoped YBCO

ORAL

Abstract

Glassy, fluctuating charge order is intertwined with superconductivity in underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+y (YBCO). Here we report momentum-resolved measurements of slow atomic fluctuations using the x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) technique. We provide evidence of sensitivity to charge ordering, and surprisingly, to the onset of superconductivity. We discuss new insights into the complex phase competition in the cuprate superconductors.
