Search for Irregular Features in Cosmic Ray Showers using Sparse Cosmic Ray Arrays.

Abstract

There has been a large number of mini cosmic ray arrays deployed around the world partly for education partly for research. These arrays typically make use of time difference among different detectors in the array to measure the arrival direction and use a GPS time stamp for correlation among different sites. We have used two arrays one in Central Pennsylvania and one at University of Tirana, Albania as prototype work in order to establish a framework with which we can explore the cosmic ray shower irregularities and the underlying diffusion of cosmic rays in the interstellar magnetic field. Fermi National Laboratory developed the detectors for the QuarkNet Program. The results of this work will be presented.
