Quantum Materials at the Crossroads: Enabling Tomorrow's Quantum Technologies

Abstract
Advancements in quantum materials are essential for driving next-generation technologies in quantum information science and post-Moore's-law electronics. In quantum computing, new quantum materials are fundamental to improving qubit systems—whether by minimizing losses in superconducting qubits or leveraging atomic-scale color centers for quantum communication and sensing applications. Additionally, the field of quantum materials is rapidly advancing in creating new types of quantum sensors that are vital for foundational research, including applications from dark matter detection to biological systems. These materials also present exciting opportunities in microelectronics, such as low-power devices for computing and data storage. In this talk, I will highlight recent advances in quantum materials and devices, exploring future possibilities and the complex challenges involved in controlling and optimizing quantum matter for both practical applications and fundamental research.
