An Integrated Approach to Teaching Mechanics and Calculus I within an NSF S-STEM Project

ORAL

Abstract

In this presentation, we will discuss a teaching approach that integrates Calculus I with Mechanics (General Physics) as part of the NSF S-STEM project "Integrating the Teaching of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering Courses to Improve Retention of Engineering Students at Penn State Abington." Our talk will focus on the design of our integrated curriculum, including two important connection points that allow concepts from calculus and physics to mutually reinforce each other. We will also share the benefits and challenges that we have experienced while implementing the integrated teaching approach.
