Gravitational Waves from Compact Binaries – Building Evidence in What is Observed

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

With six unambiguous detections of gravitational waves from mergers of compact objects, the field of gravitational wave astrophysics has taken its place as an invaluable tool with which to explore the Universe. In this talk I will present results from these observations and discuss their significance both individually and together as the beginning of a resolved population of compact objects. I will also discuss the methods used for inferring the properties of the observed binaries, and how those methods are crucial in order to continue building evidence in our observations.
