Metastability in competing coexisting orders

ORAL

Abstract

The dynamical phase transition of a system with two coexisting competing order parameters is studied using the Time-Dependent-Ginzburg-Landau framework. The dynamics are induced by pumping the system with an ultrafast laser pulse and the enhancement of the weaker order and the metastability of the new phase is investigated through analytical and numerical arguments. The effect of the fluctuations and how the system scans the nonequilibrium energy landscape can tell us about the impact of the thermal and nonthermal properties of the system in the exotic transient and metastable dynamics. The correlation length of the orders is calculated and compared to an ultrafast experiment that was not explained before.
