Global Science: Advocacy & Outreach for the US High Energy Physics Community
ORAL
Abstract
The US LHC Users Association (USLUA) is an organization for US scientists and engineers conducting research at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Its mission is to support this community by helping members work effectively with colleagues at CERN and adapt to living and working abroad. USLUA provides crucial communication channels between LHC scientists, US funding agencies, and Congress. A major component of this work is coordinating the annual high-energy physics advocacy trip to Washington D.C. This effort empowers scientists to meet directly with congressional offices, communicate the impact of their research, and advocate for sustained federal support from the DOE and NSF. In addition to direct advocacy, USLUA performs outreach to other key groups, including physics educators and policymakers, to promote the science of the LHC. Through these integrated efforts in community support, communication, and advocacy, USLUA ensures the continued strength and success of the US high-energy physics community.
