Search For Baryon number violation in tau lepton decays

ORAL

Abstract

A search for baryon number violating decays of the $\tau$ lepton has been performed. Specifically decays involving three charged tracks one of which is a proton. Decays of interest are of the form $\tau \rightarrow p \pi \pi$ or $\tau \rightarrow l l$ where $l $ is either a $\mu$ or e lepton. The search was conducted using 384 $fb^{-1}$ of $e^ {+} e^{-}$ data collected from the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage rings. No evidence of the signal has been found, upper limits on the branching fractions are found to be of on the order of $10^{-7}$.
