Magnetic-Field Induced Metal-Insulator Transition in SrTiO3-y

ORAL

Abstract

The effect of magnetic field on the electrical resistivity of two specimens of SrTiO3-y will be reported. The specimens are metallic in the range 2 K < T < 295 K. Their charge-carrier concentrations are n = 8.6x1016 and 2.0x1017 cm-3. Magnetic field induces a metal-insulator transition in both specimens. The magnetic field alters the quantization scheme of the charge-carriers due to the formation of cyclotron orbits. As a result, the electrons enter quantized Landau levels. The metal-insulator transition will be interpreted within this framework.
