Measurement of the Dynamics of Tippe Tops

We examine experimentally the motion of Tippe tops: tops with spherical shape symmetry, but only axial mass symmetry. Tippe tops with sufficient initial spin invert, raising their center of mass because of the action of friction. Video analysis is used to explore the dynamics of this inversion and its dependence on top parameters and initial conditions.
