SPS Careers Toolbox: Career Preparation for Undergraduates and Advisers
ORAL
Abstract
Physics students have an exceptionally broad range of career options, the most common of which is the private sector. Preparing students for these options, including teaching careers, at the undergraduate level is vital to student recruitment, retention, and department health. This interactive workshop will outline the resources available, including the updated Careers Toolbox, discuss department best practices, and provide tools for incorporation into curriculum. Implementation examples and course material will be included, and the implications of department health will be discussed. How to build topics such as overcoming obstacles, skills assessment, mental health, teaching as a profession, networking, and professional skills into existing courses or sequences will be discussed.
