Faculty Perceptions of the Teaching Profession: PTaP.HE categorization, interpretation, and setting a benchmark
COFFEE_KLATCH · Invited
Abstract
Faculty perceive they are more supportive than their perceptions may suggest… In this session participants are asked for their expert feedback on the interpretation of data collected with the PTaP.HE (“p-taffy”), Perceptions of Teaching as a Profession for Higher Education. As part of the development and validation of the PTaP.HE instrument we have conducted faculty interviews, collected large-scale data from over 40 institutions, and conducted statistical analyses including a factor analysis. In this workshop we will ask you to help us 1) finalize how we name the empirical categories that emerged from the factor analysis, 2) organize these categories to tell the most informative story, and finally 3) set a benchmark that defines the recommended level for each category. Join us to help think about these things and to see what the data reveals about faculty perceptions of teachers, their careers, and how we think about students and their future careers.
