Abstract

Nuclear physics in the southeast is a rich field that involves both several major laboratories in the region and many universities across Southeast who have used these facilities for their research. This talk will concentrate on the low energy nuclear research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and many universities in the region and Oak Ridge Associated Universities who have carried out research that involved ORNL. The research covers the period of 1940's to present. There is a rich history of both experimental and theoretical nuclear research. Some of the exciting research findings will be described. The importance of these researches is noted by the many awards won by ORNL and university scientists in the Southeast for nuclear research.
