A reinterpretation of an LHC search for displaced vertices and muons in RPV SUSY models

POSTER

Abstract

This reinterpretation analysis aims to test the limitations of R-parity violating (RPV) SUSY models. A previous ATLAS search looked for long-lived massive particles with a displaced vertex and muon with a large impact parameter. This reinterpretation of that search looks to exclude regions of unprobed RPV SUSY parameter space. After generating simulated particle collision event samples, signal events were selected based on whether or not they passed the event selection criteria. The selected events were then used to calculate a normalized number of events that fall into the analysis signal regions. Using these event yields and comparing to the published 95% CL upper limits, new RPV SUSY model limits are achieved. By repeating this process with a large array of samples, an exclusion contour can be traced out onto a two dimensional space of the mass of the stop quark and lifetime of the neutralino, which provides new limits on RPV SUSY models in regions previously unexcluded.
