Abstract
In the last decade, large Magnetically Shielded Rooms have dramatically increased in quality. Their low residual magnetic fields and high shielding factor enable ever more precise searches for beyond standard model effects, such as a permanent electic dipole moment of the neutron. Further improvements on the more than a decade old nEDM upper bound can be found with enhanced ultracold neutron (UCN) density and with more carefully controlled magnetic field inhomogeneities. For example, the improved UCN storage density generated by LANL's upgraded solid deuterium UCN source combined with a newly designed magnetically shielded room and magnetometry suite should yield a nEDM sensitivity of 3x10-27 e-cm. This talk will introduce precision searches with Ramsey's method, with a detailed focus on modern field generation and mapping techniques.
