Improving NiTi and Stainless Steel Bonds Using Magnetic Field

POSTER

Abstract

This project focuses on developing strong and smart bi-metallic structures by joining Nitinol (NiTi) and stainless steel (SS). The primary challenge is preventing the formation of weak intermetallic compounds (IMCs) during the welding process. We are investigating the use of magnetic fields to enhance the bonding of NiTi and SS, aiming to improve the strength and quality of the weld. Our research involves a series of experiments comparing welding outcomes with and without magnetic fields, seeking to understand the impact of MFs on reducing IMCs and enhancing adhesion. The successful implementation of this technique could lead to significant advancements in creating durable bi-metallic components for various high-tech industries.
