Dalitz Plot Analysis of ω → π+π-π0 at GlueX

POSTER

Abstract

The study of the production and decay mechanisms of a resonance provide invaluable insight into its structure and internal dynamics. The GlueX experiment at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is an ideal place to study the ω meson by virtue of its abundance in photoproduction reactions. At present, there is no clear agreement between experimental data and theoretical calculations regarding the decay properties of this vector meson, resulting mainly from a lack of statistics in previous experiments. As a result, there is still plenty to be understood regarding the nature of the ω meson. Taking this into consideration, and using data from the GlueX experiment, we determine the Dalitz decay parameters of the ω meson with greater precision than previous experiments. In this amplitude analysis study, we perform an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to a high-statistics Dalitz plot distribution for the decay ω → π+π-π0 in order to extract these parameters. Our preliminary results indicate the presence of final-state interactions between the pions and will also contribute to the refinement of theoretical models to improve the current understanding of the ω decay mechanism.
