Analytical Review of Physical Phenomena Present in Modern Science-Fiction Media

Abstract
A high percentage of scientific information consumed by the average American is sourced from non-academic media such as films, television, video games, and social platforms. These mediums were designed primarily for entertainment, not education, often containing misrepresentations of scientific concepts. Without prior exposure to scientific topics, viewers may accept misinformation as fact. For this reason, representations of the physical universe should either be accurate representations or obvious science-fiction. This study reviews depictions of physical phenomena present in various forms of modern science-fiction media where narratives have broken the laws of physics and discusses the educational implications of inaccuracies, especially when they are indistinguishable to the average viewer.
