A search for baryon-number violation in B meson decays to two baryons

ORAL

Abstract

Searches for processes in which baryon number is violated by 2, as would be observed in neutron-antineutron oscillation, have so far come up empty. Many of these searches involve first-generation quarks and we propose searching for these processes in initial or final states involving second- and third-generation quarks. We analyze data collected by the BaBar experiment from e+/e- collisions at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, a dataset which contains roughly 1 billion B mesons. We search for decays of charged B mesons to a proton and Lambda baryon, which violates baryon-number by 2. This is the first search for this process and the current status of the analysis will be presented.
