Field momentum in Abelian monopole models
ORAL
Abstract
In this talk we show that some standard models of magnetic charge -- Banderet potential, Dirac string potential, and Wu-Yang fiber bundle approach -- carry an electromagnetic field momentum. This electromagnetic field momentum implies a violation of the center of energy theorem. We argue that each of these monopole models also carry a hidden mechanical momentum which saves the center of energy theorem. However the existence of this hidden mechanical momentum indicates that all of these models are not pure monopoles, but rather monopoles plus some real current density and non-Coulomb magnetic field associated with the hidden momentum.
