Cryogenic study of the tensile properties of materials

ORAL

Abstract

Materials respond to forces by bending or stretching ultimately leading to sample failure and fracture. How the materials bend and fracture changes as the temperature of the material changes. In this study a cryogenic crucible was designed and constructed to fit onto a material testing rig to allow for the cryogenic response of various materials to tensile forces to be studied. At each temperature the stress-strain graphs were analyzed and the overall trend will be reported.
