Ternary, Exfoliable, Near-Room Temperature Ferromagnetic Chalcogenide

ORAL

Abstract

The binary transition metal chalcogenides are known for their diverse magnetic and electronic properties. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel ternary chalcogenide formed with Fe, Ti and Se. The resulting crystals are sizeable and highly exfoliable. Magnetic characterization reveals ferromagnetic behavior near room temperature, with a significant hysteresis loop and irreversibility. The distinct combination of exfoliability, metallic conductivity, and near-room temperature ferromagnetism establishes it as a good platform for spintronic and magnetic memory technologies.
