Abstract

A spatially indirect exciton (IX), also known as an interlayer exciton, is a bound pair of an electron and a hole confined in separated layers in a semiconductor heterostructure (HS). Due to their long lifetimes, orders of magnitude longer than lifetimes of spatially direct excitons (DXs), IXs can thermalize below the temperature of quantum degeneracy that gives an opportunity to create quantum excitonic states. We present recent results in quantum IX systems. In GaAs/AlGaAs HS: the Fermi-edge singularity due to the Cooper-pair-like excitons and the excitonic Bose-polarons formed by DXs immersed in degenerate Bose gases of IXs. In MoSe2/WSe2 HS: the IX long-range transport with the 1/e decay distances reaching 100 microns and the IX mediated long-range spin transport with the 1/e decay distances reaching 100 microns.
