Evaluating The Performance of Quantum Annealers and Classical Optimizers in Aircraft Container Loading Problem : A Feasibility Study

Abstract

We demonstrate an effective application of quantum annealers with forward and reverse annealing techniques in solving the Aircraft Loading Optimization problem. Load balancing problem in air cargo has high impact in terms of safety and profitability of airlines and therefore loading of each aircraft must carefully be planned. The study here also addresses comparative analysis of performance of quantum vs classical Pyomo and Greedy solvers. Our results indicate that the quality of solutions returned by classical solvers Pyomo and Greedy solvers and the performance is faster than the quantum annealers.
