Breaking the Misinformation Machine

Abstract
The online misinformation machine is slicker than ever. What's a science journalist to do? How about a researcher or teaching scientist? In this presentation, I will walk the audience through real-world examples of science misinformation, paired with concrete ways both journalists and scientists can help to either prevent the misinformation altogether or stop its spread. I will also explore what science has to say about why some interventions work and others amplify the problem. I will leave the audience with a prompt to consider their own part in making the world a place where scientific integrity and facts prevail.
