Hidden Figures in Physics and Astronomy Database

ORAL

Abstract

The Hidden Figures in Physics and Astronomy Database is an open-source, user-friendly, accessible, and searchable database of diverse physicists and astronomers. The goal is to lower the barrier for instructors to incorporate and highlight the contributions of historically marginalized physicists and astronomers, including Black, Brown, women, LGBTQ+, and differently-abled people, throughout history ("Hidden Figures") in lectures. Since coursework strongly shapes students' perceptions of physics identity, this can encourage students to see themselves as future physicists and astronomers, or leaders in their own careers. The database, available at https://hiddenfigs.github.io/, is open for contributions.

*Hidden Figures in Physics and Astronomy is a Cottrell Scholars Collaborative (#CS-CSC-2023-005) funded by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
