Ideas for making physics a more welcoming space for all

Abstract
As they navigate their careers, underrepresented groups in physics have experiences that differ from those that the majority group experience, some of which make retention harder and generate larger attrition. In this presentation, I will discuss a few initiatives meant to lower the barrier for underrepresented groups. I will discuss three initiatives: i) the course Tools for Women in STEM, developed to enable the student to approach the professional STEM environment with a better understanding of the boundary conditions and with various resources to handle the challenges that they experience; 2) the DNP allies program, that was created by the Division of Nuclear Physics with the goal to help reduce harassment at DNP meetings; 3) bystander discussion groups that are meant to allow those that from majority groups to play a larger role in changing the culture.
