Assessing Detection Efficiency of GstLAL Template Banks Across Compact Binary Coalescence Parameter Space

ORAL

Abstract

Matched-filtering gravitational wave search pipelines reply on densely populated template banks to detect compact binary coalescence (CBC) events. The GstLAL pipeline currently employs two spin-aligned template banks: the flagship search template bank targeting binary neutron stars, binary black holes, and neutron star black holes, and the Sub-Solar Mass (SSM) template bank that targets systems with at least one component that's below 1 solar mass. The spins for neutron stars are restricted in both banks and do not include tidal deformability effects. Given the relatively small number of observed binary neutron star (BNS) events to date, we examine the loss of sensitivity arising from neglecting tidal effects and from systems with highly spinning neutron stars. We conduct comprehensive bank simulations by injecting waveforms across parameters space and present our findings.
