Quantum Roots of Gravitation

ORAL

Abstract

The mechanism of gravitational attraction remains one of the deepest open questions in physics. Newton described its manifestations without uncovering its cause. General relativity presented gravitation as the curvature of spacetime but offered no explanation for why spacetime curves.

There is growing evidence that gravitation is not pure geometry. It is a deeply physical phenomenon that, moreover, is connected with quantum processes. This connection suggests that fundamental constants may vary depending on the magnitude of the gravitational potential.

Other important questions arise: Why is gravitation so much weaker than the other interactions? Could the values of the fundamental constants be shaped by the matter of the Universe itself? Could quantum mechanics contain the missing key to the origin of attraction?

This presentation will address key problems of physics and cosmology, including how quantum phenomena may underlie gravitation, opening a path to uniting two fields that have remained separate for more than a century.
