Build your Science Trust Toolkit: Moving from Correction to Connection

ANCILLARYEVENT · EVW-R52 · ID: EVW-R52

There is growing distrust between society and scientists. When scientists encounter misinformation, often their first inclination is to offer a correction. However, misinformation is a symptom of deeper issues, one of which is the lack of authentic connection between scientists and various publics. In this interactive workshop, we will work on shifting our mindsets from "I need to correct misinformation" to "I need to connect with the public, with honesty, empathy, and humility." Participants will practice reflective listening, one useful skill for building trusting relationships. Participants will leave the workshop having added a new tool to their "science trust toolkit."
