How to Graduate Before your Advisor Retires: GPU-Accelerated Quantum Computing

PANEL · EVW-T53 · ID: EVW-T53

Is your research taking too long? Do you ever stare at the Jupyter cell you executed half an hour ago and think, “there’s got to be a faster way”? This workshop is for you!

This hands-on workshop introduces physicists to the role of AI and GPUs in modern quantum computing research. After a brief introduction to why GPUs are effective for physics workloads in general, the workshop focuses on quantum computing: what it means for industry, why classical acceleration is essential, and how AI and GPU-acceleration are helping to tackle key challenges in hardware design, error correction, and algorithm development.

The workshop includes a guided, hands-on session using CUDA-Q, where participants will run quantum programs directly on GPUs. Whether you are a new quantum computing researcher or a seasoned veteran in the field, this workshop will explain how GPUs can accelerate your work. No prior experience in quantum computing or GPU programming is required. The session concludes with a discussion of career pathways at the intersection of physics, quantum computing, and high-performance computing.
