Navigating Graduate School in Physics as an International Student
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
In this talk, I share what I have learned from navigating graduate school as an international student in physics and from mentoring students who are preparing to follow similar paths. I will discuss practical approaches to aligning communication expectations with advisors and understanding how research cultures and requirements vary across institutions. I also reflect on challenges unique to international students—visas, work-authorization limits, financial uncertainties, and cultural adjustments—and how to manage them while maintaining academic momentum and personal well-being. My aim is to offer candid conversation that helps students anticipate obstacles, make informed choices, and position yourself for a successful graduate journey.
