Early Morning Coffee at CERN – A podcast by scientists at CERN about the science of CERN

ORAL

Abstract

In 2024 we initiated a pilot podcast at CERN to explore the platform as a means not only to inform and educate, but to engage the public by bringing them into our world. With more than half a billion podcast listeners in the world today, there is a potential not only to reach new, diverse audiences, but also to gain their trust by welcoming them into our conversation and sharing the human stories behind the research. The podcast team is a partnership between members of CERN Education, Communication and Outreach (ECO) and the scientists and engineers of the CERN experiments. Over several months we recorded podcasts covering a variety of topics, including Antimatter, the Higgs boson, Dark matter, and have interviewed a variety of guests, from early-career researchers to collaboration spokespersons, spanning different backgrounds and nationalities. This diversity has strengthened the authenticity of the podcast by showcasing CERN's creative and human side. We present successes, challenges and lesson learned, then discuss future plans to continue (or not) the series.
