Exploring White Dwarf Evolution Through Observations and Computational Modeling
POSTER
Abstract
White dwarfs, the dense remnants of low- and intermediate-mass stars, offer critical insights into stellar evolution and the physics of degenerate matter. This project aims to utilize the West Point Observatory’s 16-inch telescope, equipped with ZWO cameras, to capture high-quality images of white dwarfs. Using standard image reduction and photometric analysis techniques, we will derive color indices and luminosities to compare with predictions from white dwarf cooling models grounded in Chandrasekhar’s theoretical framework. Beyond this, the project seeks to explore the integration of generative artificial intelligence in astrophysical modeling. Using the collected observational data, I plan to develop a simulation demonstrating the potential applications of AI in space research and its future relevance to the Army’s role in space operations.
