Fourier and Wavelet Analysis on Kepler Data

POSTER

Abstract

This poster summarizes the results of the first stage of a continuing study comparing Fourier and wavelet analysis methods for examining the characteristics of stars. In this work, the analysis methods are applied to KIC 10407873 and KIC 2857323 to understand the periodic and non-periodic nature of the light curves collected during the Kepler mission. The star KIC 10407873 is reported to be a δ Scuti star and KIC 2857323 is a double-mode high-amplitude δ Scuti star. Fourier analysis decomposes signals into periodic functions, providing detailed frequency information, while wavelet analysis decomposes signals into wavelets, which have compact support, meaning they are localized in both time and frequency.
