Abstract

We offered five Zemax OpticalStudio based optics labs for our optics students to bridge the gap between academic optics education and optics industry requirements, preparing students for optics related career. We focused on the sequential modes, such as the labs designing plano convex singlet and achromatic doublet lenses, designing lens replicating the Thorlabs LA1254 planoconvex lens, an off-axis parabolic mirror telescope etc., allowing students to compare simulated data with industry data. These hands-on projects helped students to enhance their proficiency in Zemax OpticalStudio and optical system analysis. The curriculum success is evidence by improved students for industry roles with one securing an interview for an optics position at Alcon. This approach demonstrates the value of industry aligned labs fostering career-ready skills in optical design and technical communications.
