Promoting Climate Literacy through School Morning Assemblies: A Grassroots Educational Approach
POSTER
Abstract
Climate change education must begin at the community level, where awareness translates into everyday action. This study explores how the routine practice of morning assemblies in schools can serve as a powerful, low-cost platform to promote climate literacy among students. By integrating short talks, science-based demonstrations, and environmental pledges into daily assemblies, schools can effectively communicate climate science concepts and foster environmentally responsible behavior. The project was implemented across several schools, engaging teachers and students in discussions on energy conservation, recycling, tree planting, and local climate challenges. Observations revealed increased student participation, improved understanding of sustainability, and a noticeable shift in collective school behavior toward environmental stewardship. The findings suggest that structured, interactive morning assemblies can transform traditional school routines into opportunities for climate education, empowering young learners as proactive contributors to climate action and community resilience.
