Funsize Physics: Now More Than Ever

ORAL

Abstract

Science is at a crossroads, and it's more important than ever for those who know it best—researchers themselves— communicate with the public about how and why it matters. In this talk, we will share successes and failures from ten years of Funsize Physics, presenting skills, strategies, and opportunities for researchers to more effectively advance and advocate for the societal value of their work. Collaborations with students majoring in advertising has led to the creation of Instagram and TikTok posts based on Funsize physics articles. We have an increased number of posts on the fundamentals of a wide range of topics, including polymers, liquid crystals, electromagnetic waves.  We will discuss the results of a one credit science writing course for undergraduate physics majors.
