Collaborative Engagement and Workforce Development in Plasma Science and Fusion Energy
ORAL
Abstract
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) advances a growing portfolio of programs and collaborations that strengthen public engagement and workforce development in plasma science and fusion energy. Among the largest are Plasma NET (Network for Engagement and Training) and the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) Education & Outreach Committee - community-driven initiatives that unite educators, researchers, and communicators across institutions. In an uncertain and rapidly changing environment for research and education, these efforts build resilience through shared resources, adaptable frameworks, and mutual support. Grounded in a contribution-based model, PPPL and its partners emphasize evidence-based engagement and building relationships over traditional "outreach." Recent highlights include Science Trust and Battling Misinformation workshops in collaboration with APS, a virtual program evaluation series through Plasma NET, and a pilot evaluation of coordinated school visits during APS DPP meetings. Attendees will learn ways to engage with PPPL and communities such as Plasma NET, APS DPP E&O activities, and broader APS efforts such as JNIPER and Science Trust that connect and strengthen the PS&FE community.
