QECIPHY: A High-Speed Physical Layer for Quantum Error Correction Interfaces
ORAL
Abstract
As quantum computers scale toward fault-tolerant operation, the physical interface between control systems and quantum error correction (QEC) processors must handle real-time communication with increasingly complex data flows. We present QECIPHY, a fully open-source physical layer implementation of QECi (Quantum Error Correction interface) open standard, designed for real-time FPGA-to-FPGA communication. This lightweight, low-latency implementation can be configured for high data rates and different transceiver types, enabling portability across multiple Xilinx FPGA families. We talk about how our modular design abstracts physical-layer complexity through simple interfaces, enabling seamless integration with existing control systems. This work advances the standardization of quantum computing interfaces by providing a production-ready physical layer that bridges the gap between theoretical QEC protocols and practical hardware implementations, accelerating the path toward scalable fault-tolerant quantum systems.
