Rotor codes & cos(Nφ) qubits

Oral-In-person

Abstract

We re-examine rotor codes, quantum error-correcting codes on a compact phase variable with N-fold rotational symmetry. These connect to superconducting qubits with cos(Nφ) potentials, generalizing the transmon (N = 1) and cos(2φ) qubit (N = 2). We analyze their gate structure, error propagation, and code distance. We show that such codes suggest new minimum uncertainty states are intimately connected to good qubits and good rotor codes.
