Practical Rotation Synthesis
ORAL
Abstract
This talk will explore the practical challenges and tradeoffs when generating single-qubit arbitrary angle rotation synthesis to fixed precision. The field of quantum rotation synthesis is well-established, offering protocols for both ancilla-free and ancilla assisted fall back compilation of single-qubit unitaries into discrete gate sets. Despite a plethora of protocols, practical software libraries to explore the variety of tradeoffs allowed by the protocols in different gate sets is noticeably lacking. We demonstrate a flexible software implementation of modern synthesis protocols in Qualtran and highlight key performance improvements enabling diagonal unitary synthesis of arbitrary angle to diamond norm distance of 1e-16 to be performed in ~21.5s time using a purely python implementation with a time that rises in polylog(error) time to 1m40s at diamond norm distance of 1e-30.
