Random Laser with Micron-scale Specular Inclusions

ORAL

Abstract

Even in the absence of interferometrics effects, Random Lasers may yield significant gain and wavelength selectivity. We consider pulsed operation in a gain medium ( i.e. in the context of a simple 3 level quantum state structure) with included monodispersed highly reflective spheres with radii significantly larger than the laser's wavelength. We calculate optical spectra and total gain. We examine quantitative and qualitative trends with respect to the system size and the density of included reflective spheres. In the case of the latter, we give particular attention to lasing characteristics in proximity to the void percolation threshold where the gain medium only occupied a few persent of the overall volume.
