Topology and magnetotransport in strong spin-orbit compound PtAlx

ORAL

Abstract

Materials exhibiting large magnetoresistance and anomalous Hall effects have garnered much attention owing to their inherent connection to non-trivial electronic topology, which is often observed in materials with strong spin-orbit coupling due to presence of heavy element constituents. Here we present a study of high quality single crystals of the low-symmetry compound PtAlx, reporting on electrical resistivity, Hall effect and magnetic susceptibility measurements that indicate a rich behavior in this 5d element system.
